El Paso, TX (KDBC) — Cathedral High School Center for Advanced Studies will honor 10 of its students on April 24, 2014, who were named 2014 Gates Millennium Scholars.
The Gates Millennium Scholarship was created in 1999 from a $1 billion grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It's goal is to promote academic excellence and provide the opportunity for minority students to reach their potential. Students are selected from a national pool of students who had the highest grades, leadership skills and community service, while having financial need, as well.
The Cathedral students named 2014 Gates Millennium Scholars are Jorge A. Barrio, Jose-Roberto Delgado, Martin Jeffers, Anthony J. Jewett, Aldo M. Jordan, Oscar Loya, Jose A. Negrete, Christian Ortiz, Isaac M. Sotelo, and David P. Torres
The students will be honored Thursday, April 24th at 8:30a.m. at Cathedral High School's Multi-Purpose Building at 1309 N. Stanton Street.
The seniors are El Paso Community College dual-credit students. Since 2009, 31 Gates Scholars have been named from Cathedral High School.
