BELGIUM— The Europeans are on a roll in busting myths— now breakfast could pack on the pounds if eaten before a work out.
Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, and the larger the breakfast, the better. But new research from Munich suggested that the more calories the person consumes for breakfast, the more calories that person will consume throughout the day for lunch and dinner. And now, it just so happens that the fastest way to lose weight might be to eat breakfast after working out in the morning.
Research suggests that weight could be gained after eating breakfast before a workout session.
Researchers in Belgium followed two groups of young men for six weeks. One group ate a carbohydrate packed breakfast and then worked out. The second group first worked out and then ate the same breakfast as the first group. The first group actually gained three pounds, while the second group gained almost no weight.
Going on an intense workout may not be essential for everyone, and some trainers suggest eating something, such as a banana, before a work out.
The study also revealed that people who waited to eat until after their work out had lower blood sugar levels, which reduces their risk of diabetes.
