All About Larry rebounded with a superlative effort to win the $63,090 Red Cell New Mexico Distance Challenge (Grade 3) by an expanding 4 lengths on Easter Sunday at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

The 2012 AQHA distance champion redeemed himself from a fourth place showing in the trials held on March 8. In the finale, All About Larry was all business and broke powerfully from the #1 post position. Under jockey Salvador Martinez, the six-year-old Arizona-bred son of Heza Motor Scooter battled furiously for the early lead along with Stray Cat and the favorite Dm Streakn Thru Fire.

All About Larry skimmed the rail coming off the turn and began to assert his dominance at the top of the lane. The 9-5 second favorite was a length in front in mid-stretch and extended the margin to 4 lengths at the wire. John Stinebaugh’s talented 870 yard expert caught the distance in a fast 44.122 seconds. The bay gelding collected his 11th career win from 23 starts for owner Diane Heath. All About Larry owns 7 wins from 10 tries at the 870 yard distance. He earned $30,284 for the Red Cell victory pushing his career mark to nearly $190,000. In 2012, the incredibly durable champion won races at Sunland Park, Turf Paradise, Sun Ray Park, Ruidoso Downs, Lone Star Park and Prairie Meadows. He could be well on his way to defending his distance championship title in 2013.

Trainer John Stinebaugh completed a great weekend at Sunland Park having won the $203,148 West Texas Derby on Saturday with the great filly Pj Chick in Black.

Dm Streakn Thru Fire raced as the even money favorite under jockey Casey Lambert coming off a easy trial win over All About Larry. The Mike Joiner trainee made a bold 3-wide move around the far turn and looked very dangerous. He battled bravely but had no answers for the winner down the stretch. The five-year-old Walk Thru Fire gelding finished a distant second, a half-length in front of Jess a Traffic Jam.

Stray Cat faded in fourth place followed by Kc Royal Flush, Hauling the Cash, Gg Streakin South and I Know Bedarina.

Live racing resumes on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
