El Paso, TX (KDBC) — In a battle of Eagles, Canutillo and Andress face off Friday in the softball bi-district playoffs. For the second year in a row, Jose Ramos will depend on an underclassman to extend the bi-district championship streak to 5 for Andress.
Olivia Buckaloo is the teams top offensive threat batting a blistering .680 with 12 homeruns this season and also serves as the top pitcher for Andress. The sophomore stud will be on the mound for the rest of the playoffs for the Eagles but Buckaloo says she is ready.
" It's a really big thing, it's quite a lot of pressure, pitching three games in a row in the playoffs, but I am here to help my team, so that's all that matters," said Buckaloo.
Her head coach went almost as far to say that experience is overrated if you have talent like her's.
"I'll take her any day of the year, last year she carried us as a freshman, this year she is carrying us as a sophomore. Olivia is a tough athlete, she works really hard," said Ramos.
The spotlight will be on for first pitch Friday, 4pm at Canutillo High School for the first of a best of three series. Game two will be Saturday, 10am at Andress High School. If necessary, game three will be thirty minutes after the end of game two.
