El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The Dallas Cowboys got to see how Tony Romo's surgically repaired back would respond to taking a hit Saturday against Miami, three times actually, and the good news is that everything seems fine. The bad news is that Romo and the offense had another rough night.
Romo played the entire first half of the Cowboys third preseason game taking 32-snaps completing 10 of 18 passes for 87 yards. In his two preseason games, Romo completed 14 of 23 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown. The Miami and Dallas starters combined for only 9 first half points as the reserves put up 5 second half touchdowns in the 25-20 loss for the Cowboys.
"It was good to see Tony out there playing," Dallas coach Jason Garrett said at halftime. "He got knocked around a little bit, and that could be good and bad. ... It's good to have him feel the physical part of the game."
Romo noted there are some things Dallas has to clean up.
"It felt good to get through a half," Romo said. "We want to put more points on the board, but we hurt ourselves with penalties. The game is always going to be hard if you keep putting yourself behind."
Tyler Patmon had a 9-yard interception return for a score and LaRon Byrd caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Weeden for Dallas. Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey made field goals of 52 and 50 yards.
The Cowboys close the preseason Thursday against the Denver Broncos at AT&T Stadium.
