El Paso, TX — Omar Salgado made a name for himself throughout El Paso with the Texas Fire and youth clubs with Chivas in Guadalajara. Omar was the top overall pick in the 2011 MLS draft by the Vancouver Whitecaps, but it's been a bumpy road since then.
Omar made his professional debut on April 10, 2011 in a game against Houston Dynamo. He scored his first professional goal in his full debut for the Whitecaps on April 30, 2011 against the Columbus Crew, but in June 2012, Salgado fractured his foot while on international duty with the United States U-20 national team in a game against Uruguay. Salago fractured his foot again in 2013, missing the entire 2013 MLS Season.
Obviously, it's been a rough road for the former number one pick, but he's finally healthy, and hoping to make a contribution to the Whitecaps soon, after a loan to the Charleston Battery
"Obviously being injured for two years, something I didn't look forward to at the start of my career, but I am glad that's over, and hopefully no more injuries and a long career ahead of me. We're on a roll, our forwards are on a roll, so I just have to wait for my opportunity."
The Whitecaps are currently fifth in the Western Conference.
