Former Miner earns silver at World Championships

Former UTEP standout, Blessing Okagbare earned a silver medal in the long jump at the IAAF World Championships on Aug. 11th.

Okagbare finished second out of twelve competitors with a mark of 6.99 meters, “22' 11¼ ft.”.

After placing in the long jump event, the four-time national champion took first place with a time of 11.08 in her semi final heat in the 100m on Monday. Okagbare improved her time to 11.04, as she finished sixth in the final.

Her next event will be the 200m that will take place on Aug. 15th.

The eleven-time All-American will finish out her visit to the World Championships as part of Nigeria’s 4x100m relay team on Aug. 18th.
