Sunland Park, N.M. - Jaws n’ Paws collected her 14th career win after cruising home an impressive winner in the $50,000 Czaria Stakes at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino on Saturday. The multiple stakes winner trained by Robertino Diodoro showed her class by leading every step of the way in the six furlong distaff feature.

Under leading jockey Ry Eikleberry, Jaws n’ Paws broke alertly and carved out strong fractions of 22.28 and 44.69 for the first two calls while racing under a snug hold. With the sharp break, Jaws n’ Paws got the jump on Harry Henson Handicap winner African Rose and was able to build momentum around the turn. The even money favorite put away African Rose at the top of the stretch. The sturdy front runner was well armed throughout the sprint and held safe from a late closing Pyrite On My Mind to win by one-length. The Turf Paradise invader sped through the distance in a good 1:09.21.

Jaws n’ Paws earned a $30,000 paycheck for the Stateside Racing Stable. Her immaculate record stands at 14 wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds from 29 starts with earnings topping $306,000. She paid $4.00 on a $2 win ticket.

Pyrite On My Mind placed in her fourth consecutive stakes appearance. The stretch running expert found momentum in the final furlongs to gain second place but was no threat to the winner. Ken Tohill rode the six-year-old mare.

African Rose missed the break slightly and was unable to threaten the winner. The 6-5 second choice finished in third place beaten 3 lengths. She completes a strong meet for trainer Justin Evans recording 3 wins and 1 third from 6 tries this season.

Under jockey Salvador Martinez, Kia Won scored a nose victory in the $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling at 300 yards. The New Mexico-bred colt by Ketel Won just held off Jess Corona Jr. to win her first career race. He picked up $30,000 in prize monies for El Paso, Texas owners Nahum Prieto and Joe Rios.
