Aaron Rodgers went home for the playoffs tonight as the Northern California native led his Green Bay Packers in to Candlestick Park to face the San Francisco 49ER'S, a team Rodgers grew up cheering for.
However, San Francisco beat the Packers in the season opener with Alex Smith at quarterback, who was drafted ahead of Rodgers in 2005.
The Niners would take the game, 45-31, thanks to Colin Kaepernick's 445 total yards and four touchdowns, taking them to the NFC Championship, and sending Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, two longtime Packers home with no hardware, possibly for the final time in a Packer uniform. Jim Harbaugh and the 49ER'S will take on the winner of Sunday's Seahawks-Falcons' game in the NFC Championship.
In an overtime 38-35 victory tonight at Mile High Stadium, the Baltimore Ravens prolonged their run in the playoffs while ending the great comeback season Peyton Manning.
"It's disappointing just because of how much effort and hard work this team put into this season and certainly we had plans of playing next week. Our guys were excited and to get beat in overtime by a field goal at the end is really disappointing. You can go through lots of plays certainly offensively that we'd like to have back, I'd like to have back. Certainly we did a lot of good things this season, but as of right now it's hard to think of anything else besides this loss tonight," said Manning.
Ravens' Ray Lewis added, "The energy is crazy. The emotions are crazy, but to stay the course the way this team stayed the course I take my hat off to my team. I take my hat off to my coaches because we looked at each other this week and Coach Harbaugh trusted us. He really trusted us. he trusted us the way we practices. The way we prepare and to come out here and grab this victory the way we did today, this is what life is about."
The Ravens will face the winners of tomorrow's New England Patriots-Houston Texans game.
