Las Cruces, NM — The New Mexico State football team, along with the NMSU Grounds Department will team up on Thursday, March 20 from 8 a.m. to noon, to plant trees on the east side of Aggie Memorial Stadium. Twenty grounds department employees and approximately 50 Aggie football players will plant 33 Chinese Pistache trees during the morning hours.
This project is in conjunction with the universities east campus enhancement project, along Arrowhead.
“Giving back to the Las Cruces community and our beautiful university is extremely important to our program,” head coach Doug Martin said. “Helping Bud Jones and his staff at OFS plant the trees on the east side of the stadium is just another way we can help make our university a place that fans and students can enjoy and be proud of. We are always happy to help and thankful for the opportunity to do so.”
“Traditionally, NMSU plants around a dozen tree on campus around Arbor Day,” Bud Jones, Manager of Landscaping and Grounds at NMSU. “This year we are extremely happy to have a joint effort with the grounds department and the Aggie Football team to enhance the east side of the stadium. Hopefully with the success of this project we can join with other groups around campus in the future.”
The Aggies are in the middle of spring practice and will be back on the field for practice No. 3 on Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
