NMSU Athletic Director speaks about Walker's status

Thursday, January 24, 2013 - 12:43am

Local 4 has learned that the Jacksonville Jaguars have offered the Defensive Backs coaching position to NMSU Head Football coach DeWayne Walker. This came about on Tuesday, January 22, and tonight, Local 4 spoke to NMSU Athletic Director Dr. McKinley Boston about the status of Walker.

Dr. McKinley Boston told Local 4, "I spoke to him and like I say, he is negotiating with them and if the negotiations go well then he'll have a decision to make wether or not he'll take it or stay but as of now he has not acknowledged, he has not advised me that he has taken the job, they have offered it to him though."

Dr. Boston acknowledged that Walker is in contract negotiations with the Jaguars, and was hoping to speak to Walker later tonight regarding those discussions. Dr. Boston also acknowledged new offensive coordinator Doug Martin, who served in that same position with the Aggies in 2011, but was O.C. last year at Boston College, would make a good fit with the New Mexico State program, but would not speculate as to his status right now, and if they have discussed a potential interim head coaching title.
