NMSU men's golf finishes 5th at Louisiana Classic

The No.47 ranked New Mexico State golf team completed tournament play at the Louisiana Classic, Tuesday afternoon, placing fifth as a team with a three-round score of 15-over par, 879 (296-289-294).

“I didn’t think we played our best golf, but we did do a lot of good things,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “We didn’t putt the ball as well as we can and we didn’t make enough birdies to keep up with some of the other teams. I see good in everybody we just need to correct our mistakes and we are looking forward to getting back on the course later this week.”

Junior Pat Beyhan led NM State with a three-round score of 3-over par, 219 (76-74-69). He was the only Aggie under par in the final round, carding a 3-under par, 69. Beyhan finished tied for 20th. Sophomore Kenneth Fadke II placed tied for 25th overall with a three-round score of 4-over par, 220 (76-72-72). In the final round, Fadke II shot even par, 72.

Senior Willy Hogan carded a 4-over par, 76 in the final round of play, finishing the tournament at 5-over par, 221 (75-70-76). He tied for 30th overall. Junior Brett Walker also finished 30th overall with a three-round score of 5-over par, 221 (71-73-77). His final round score of 5-over par was the highest of the tournament for Walker.

Freshman Luis Medina rounded out the Aggie competitors with a three-round score of 12-over par, 228 (74-76-87). He finished tied for 56th.

No. 9 Illinois won the team title with a 25-under par, followed by No. 33 LSU (-19), Louisiana (+4), Louisiana Tech (+8) and NM State. Myles Washington of LSU won the individual team crown at 10-under par.

The Aggies will be back in action March 14-16
