Despite being introduced to the sports just three years ago, El Dorado senior-to-be Eldridge Patterson will be one of the triple jump favorites at next weeks USATF Junior Olympic Nationals.

"I'm hoping to go 48-49 feet which would put me on top. I know I'm going to be battling [Burges HS grad] Keandre Bates up there, looking forward to jumping against him again and I'm ready to do it," said Patterson.

Patterson is one of 42 athletes from the club team El Paso Striders.

"He's going in in the top 5 for Nationals so he's hoping to go further, top 3, and do some great things at National," said Striders head coach Michael Abeyta.

Nationals begin Monday in Houston, Texas.
