El Paso, TX — Juniors Jallycia Pearson and Nickevea Wilson rounded out the third day of the NCAA Championships placing in the top 15 in the heptathlon and triple jump, respectfully.
El Paso native Pearson was the first to take to the field in the long jump. The Conference USA Champion delivered a leap of 5.18m (17-0), -0.5, to tie for third place. The multi-event athlete then went on to boast a personal-best of 40.27m (132-1) in the javelin, claiming 10th overall.
Pearson continued her momentum as she registered a personal-best performance in the800m run. The junior clocked in a time of 2:17.68, as she crossed the finish line second in the first heat. She placed seventh overall.
With theheptathlon’s seven events concluded, Pearson tallied a total of 5,397 points to place 15th overall.
Taking to the field in the women’s triple jump was Wilson, who missed All-American honors by only 0.19m. The Jamaican native recorded a leap of 12.84 (42-1.5), +3.6, placing her 10th out of 24 competitors.
Tomorrow the Miners will close out the national meet with Anthony Rotich looking to defend his title in the 3,000msteeplechase. The distance runner will take to the track at approximately 3:57 p.m. (MT).
