Roller Derby celebrates with dance and contest

Roller Derby weekend is here and the El Paso Derby Girls are celebrating with a DJ Dance Party and fundraiser on Friday, August 16, 2013, followed by the grand opening of El Paso’s first derby shop, Block and Roll on Saturday, August 17, 2013. The El Paso Roller Derby Girls will host Master of Disguise, a Masquerade Dance & Costume Contest Friday, August 16 at Tricky Falls, featuring hit music by DJ Bloody Holly, DJ RollerDecks, and Derby DJ’s Weasel and Kräpp. Tickets will be available at the door or through any El Paso Roller Derby skater. Tickets will also be available at Block & Roll Skate Shop, Eloise & Joe, Vinny & Bronson’s.

Then, August 17 at 4pm, you’re invited to join them for the grand opening of Block & Roll, El Paso’s new, premium roller derby skate shop, for refreshments and appetizers.

Block & Roll Skate Shop is geared toward the roller derby skater, junior skater, referee, and recreational skater. The store will carry protective gear, skates and derby accessories as well offer custom fittings to insure their customers are in proper fitting gear and skates. Block & Roll will also be a full service skate shop. The shop will offer skate maintenance, tune ups, re-grooving wheels and plate mounting.

Block & Roll’s hours of operation are Sundays from 12pm-4pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am-7pm, and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-5pm. The store will be closed on Mondays and prices range from $3-$449.
