Jefferson's State and National Champion wrestler Yvonne Galindo picked a perfect place to extend her wrestling career, a powerhouse in women's wrestling. Today, Galindo signed to wrestle at Oklahoma City University, a program that picked up its second WCWA national title and third NWCA National Duals crown in a row in 2009-2010. Oklahoma City is coached by Archie Randall, an El Pasoan who earned his degree from UTEP in 1977.
"I am really excited because I know there is so much more to do out there, and I am excited to tackle it. But I'd like to say I am a good role model, and to all the young girls out there, to everybody, even to those not in sports, as long as you set your mind to it, you can get there," said Galindo. Yvonne won the 2011 and 2012 UIL state championship, and the 2011 national championship.
