Sy, Mullings, Bhullar Earn All-WAC Honors

Sunday, March 10, 2013 - 11:42pm

New Mexico State men's basketball senior forward Bandja Sy, sophomore guard Daniel Mullings and freshman center Sim Bhullar earned All-WAC honors, as voted on by the league's 10 head coach.

"I'm very happy with the selections that were made from our team," head coach Marvin Menzies said. "I feel like they were well deserved. I think whenever you have success as a team then the individual accolades always follow. It was only appropriate that having a very good regular season in conference that we were able to get three guys on the all-conference teams. I'm happy for the guys, and looking forward to focusing now on the WAC Tournament."

Sy was named a first-team selection after averaging 14.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He ranked fifth in scoring and fourth in rebounding in WAC only games. This is Sy's first postseason honor, and it is the seventh consecutive year that the Aggies have had a first-team honoree.

Mullings was voted to the second team All-WAC, after he supplied 14.7 points, 2.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game in conference games. He also earned all-defensive team honors. Mullings led the WAC in steals with 47 in league games, and he ranked sixth in scoring. He is the first Aggie to collect all-defensive team honors since 2008. Last season, Mullings was a WAC All-Newcomer team selection.

After a debut season averaging 11.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in WAC play, Bhullar was named the WAC Freshman of the Year and to the third team All-WAC and All-Newcomer team. Bhullar is the first Aggie in school history to earn the WAC Freshman of the Year award. In 2001, James Moore was named Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year. Bhullar ranked first in the WAC in blocks and field goal percentage (60.2) in league contests, while he was 15th in scoring and seventh in rebounding.

The 2013 WAC Tournament is held Tuesday, March 12 through Saturday, March 16, at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
