Undefeated UTEP Wraps Up Homestand Vs. Texas State Saturday

THE OPENING ACT
- UTEP will put its perfect record on the line when it plays host to Texas State at 7:05 p.m. MST Saturday. Tickets are $5 (adult) & $3 (kids).
- It is the final contest of a season-opening six-game homestand, the second longest in school history (2008-09, seven contests).
- The Miners (5-0) are perfect on the year.
- The Bobcats (1-4) have lost four straight, including back-to-back single-digit setbacks.

- UTEP got a vote in both top-25 polls this week.
- Tied for 36th in the AP & 37th in Coaches.
- 5-0 start for a third straight year & 4th overall.

- Won four straight games by 20+ points for the first time since the 2006-07 season and the third occasion overall.

- Beat Kansas State by 45 points (84-39) on Nov. 16, its third-best margin of win vs. D1 opposition.
- Set school record for biggest halftime lead vs. D1 opponent against KSU (46-13).
- Sporting a +31.8 scoring margin (81.6-49.8).
- Closest win was 17-point differential (75-58) vs. Division II member UTPB on Nov. 8.
- Tied school record by holding three straight teams to less than 45 points. Also did so during the 2003-04 season.
- Overall foes are shooting 31.1% from the floor & are committing 25.4 turnovers per game.
- Enjoyed huge advantage in free throws (106-159) while foes are 47-of-74.
- Connecting on 44.2 % from floor while making 13.8 turnovers per game.
- Balanced offensive, with 7 players at +7.0 ppg.
- Two-time C-USA honoree & senior Kayla Thornton leading way at 15.9 ppg.
- Deep squad, with 11 players at +10 mpg.
- UTEP is 56-14 since the start of the 2011-12 season, including 5-0 this year.
- UTEP is 16-1 in November since starting the 2011-12 season, including 5-0 this year.
- It is 43-22 all time in month under head coach Keitha Adams.
- UTEP is 5-6 all time when playing on Nov. 30.
- It has won past two games on the date.

INSIDE THE SERIES
- UTEP leads the series, 8-7.
- UTEP is 6-2 vs. the Bobcats in El Paso.
- The Miners won, 88-81, on Dec. 1, 2012, in the most-recent meeting between the squads.
- UTEP claimed the first meeting during the 78-79 campaign & Texas State won the next seven.

GOING BACK IN TIME
- Fueled by a huge second half (42-16), UTEP dispatched upset-minded Northern Colorado, 63-40, at the Don Haskins Center on Nov. 27.
- The Bears led by three (24-21) at the break.
- Senior Kayla Thornton (21 points) and sophomore Irene Gari (14 points) led the way.
- UTEP hit 46.6 percent (27-of-58) of its shots.

- Junior Chrishauna Parker added nine points while sophomore Jenzel Nash buoyed Gari’s spark off the bench with eight.
- Thornton made six steals.
- UNC shots 27.5 (14-of-51) percent & committed 30 turnovers that led to 36 UTEP points.
- UTEP out-scored UNC in points in the paint (42-16) & on fast-break tries (15-2) to more than compensate for losing the rebounding battle 46-31.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU
- Texas State is 671-646, including 1-4 this year, since its first year of basketball in 1966.
- Texas State is in its first year as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
- It has three postseason appearances. Texas State made the NCAA in 1997 & 2003 while advancing to the second round of the 2008 WNIT.
- Four starters & six letterwinners return from a quad that finished 10-20 a year ago.
- Three Bobcats account for +7.0 points per game, including Ashley Ezeh (13.7 ppg).

- TXST started off with a 73-45 dispatching of Huston-Tillotson (11/8) but has dropped four straight games since.
