UTEP Tennis Dominates Dominican University

Tennis is officially underway for the Miners after they swept all nine matches against the Penguins in an exhibition today at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center.

Juniors Gaby Vasquez and Marie LeBlond shutout the team of Gaby Verspieren/Emily Prescott, 8-0, at No. 2 in a doubles match, while freshman Matilda Tench and Jaime-Leigh Michau teamed up to win their first collegiate doubles match. Senior Martina Trierweiler and junior Rebecca Calvillo defeated Irina Morozova/Marissa Frazer, 8-4, at No. 1.

Trierweiler also won, 6-3, 6-2, at No.1 in a singles match.

First-year head coach Mark Roberts’ squad will officially open the season tomorrow at San Jose State (1 p.m. MT) and will then travel back to San Francisco to face the University of San Francisco (11 a.m.) on Sunday to complete the West Coast trip.

5. Michau (UTEP) def. Paradis (Dominican) 6-3, 6-0
