The UTEP women’s tennis team will complete the 2014 regular season this weekend, while honoring seniors Rebeca Calvillo, Marie LeBlond and Gabi Vazquez on Senior Day at the El Paso Tennis Club.

The Miners (11-11) will take on Idaho (14-3) on Friday, April 11 (2 p.m. MT) and Arkansas State (6-7) on April 13 (9 a.m.). The three seniors will be recognized prior to the Arkansas State match.

“I’m really excited about this weekend for the seniors,” head coach Myriam Sopel said. “We’ve definitely been looking forward to this all season. Our seniors have been doing a great job on the court and in theclassroom and have been leaders.”

Sopel coached Idaho during the 2013 spring season.

Calvillo, LeBlond and Vazquez will play their last matches for the Orange and Blue in the Sun City since arriving in 2010. The trio has earned much success during their UTEP careers.

“It’s going to be emotional,” Sopel said. “Losing three seniors is a lot; they’ve had great results this season and career accomplishments.”

Calvillo set the program standard in doubles wins (73), surpassing Erica Wentz’s 68 victories from 1995-98. Her singles wins (77) are currently ranked tied third all time with Marina DeLuca. Calvillo’s 150 combined career wins is ranked second behind Tanja Magoc’s 167.

LeBlond ranks sixth best in program history in career victories (62), while her doubles wins (55) are ranked seventh best. LeBlond’s combined-career wins (117) are ranked eighth best in program annals.

Vazquez’s 2014 season started during the spring season, as she was injured during fall tournament action. She has won 48-career singles matches and 48 doubles matches. Her combined victories (96) are ranked in the top 15 in program history.

Though this weekend will end their regular-season careers, Calvillo, LeBlond and Vazquez will have the opportunity to earn more victories during the 2014 Conference USA Tournament in Nofolk, Va. (April 16-20).

“It’s going to be a good weekend and good preparation a couple days before heading to Virginia for conference,” Sopel said.
