Las Cruces, NM - The New Mexico State baseball team takes on San Jose State in the final home series of the year. The first game of the three-game series is set for a 6:05 p.m. start, Friday, May 3 at Presley Askew Field. That game will be televised as a part of the AggieVision Productions. Game two is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, while the series finale is set for 12:05 p.m., Sunday, May 5 at Presley Askew Field. Sunday is also senior day with the NM State Athletics Department honoring the seniors in their final home game. The games on Saturday and Sunday will be on the radio in Las Cruces on KSNM.
The New Mexico State football team closes out its first spring under head coach Doug Martin with the annual spring game on Saturday, May 4 at 6 p.m. in Aggie Memorial Stadium. The spring football game is the final spring practice for the Aggies, before they resume a regular practice schedule in the fall. The spring game is open to the public and admission is free. Fans are encouraged to come early to take advantage of the pregame activities, including jumping balloons for the kids. The goal line club is also hosting a tailgate prior to the game with free hotdogs for students, along with music. Concession stands will be open on the west side of the stadium. After the scrimmage, players and coaches will be available on the field for autographs on the recently released 2013 NM State football poster. The Aggies will also host a free kid’s clinic sponsored by Sisbarro and Burger Time from 10-11 a.m. in the stadium prior to the spring game. Registration is available online and NMStateSports.com. The clinic is open to age groups 6-12 and limited to the first 500 kids to sign up. Check in at the sign-in tables at the northwest gate of the stadium.
The NM State men’s golf team looks to get back on top by adding a sixth WAC Championship as the Aggies head to Henderson, Nev., for the 2013 WAC Golf Championships from Monday, April 29 through Wednesday, May 1. The par 72, 7,332-yard course at the Rio Secco Golf Club is hosting the tournament. Senior Justin Shin, freshman Kenneth Fadke, sophomore Brett Walker, junior Willy Hogan and senior Derek Baade represent the Aggies at this year’s championship. The Aggies have won five WAC Golf Championships in seven years. Last year, NM State shot a three-round score of 18-over par, 882, finishing second. The Aggies carded a final round score of 11-over par, 299.
The NM State softball team now sits two games ahead of second-place San Jose State going into the final weekend of the regular season. The Aggies and Spartans have secured the top two spots in the WAC Tournament and will battle for the regular-season title on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4, in San Jose, Calif. Game one is set for 4 p.m. on Friday and the doubleheader on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
